The biggest question people have is, are cesspools ok? Well, they are no longer permitted to be installed. Sure I’ve replaced many with a much larger dry well or ultimately with a whole new system.
What are they made of?
They can be anything from anything. Mostly you’ll find them made from rocks. Four rock walls and a wood cover. And not very deep. And they worked fine for years. But over those years things started to get clogged and not work as well.
Do you pump out a cesspool?
Yes, you still should have a cesspool pump just like a septic tank. However, don’t expect your pumper to pump it down nicely and clean like a concrete septic tank. reason being the cesspool or even a dry well the bottom is just dirt and rock and sucking rocks up would be very bad for the pumper.
Do I need a permit?
Yes, to have a nice system installed by code you will need one, Now if the area is in an eyeshot of the town people that’s a no-go. But hey, the Permits and engineering you’ll need aren’t cheap.
Engineer
